first album: grita lobos! date of release: january 2012

what is this?

This is who we are according with our label: Grita Lobos is not a musician. His tracks are the result of a patient and endless hard-working nights distorting sounds and filling them with effects. The melodies are simple and suggest a dark and mysterious story, filled with small details which warn of a threat that is not yet clear. Albeit almost all the tracks on the album being instrumental, listening to them evokes the feeling of an invisible enemy on the prowl, hope as the most effective weapon, protesting against material greed or a request for redemption. Grita Lobos! creates a disturbing and mesmerizing ambience, but some tracks can also lead you straight to the dance floor.

Grita Lobos! cares little about how his electronic music is labeled. For some, it is gothic electro, intelligent dance music or house experimental. Grita Lobos!, of whom, for now, we can only reveal is a 6'1"-tall Peruvian guy who hides behind an Ethiopian mask, wishes to evoke through his music the same emotions and ecstasy he feels when he listens to New Order, Mogwai, LCD Soundsytem, Kraftwerk, The Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Fuck Buttoms, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Erasure and Tricky.

Among his collaborators on some tracks of his first eponymous album, we have plastic artist David “Chaq” Farfán, who co-wrote the lyrics for “Mr. Danger” and actress Anahí de Cárdenas, with whom he sings a chorus reminiscent of “Don´t You Want Me Baby” by Human League. Salo Langberg, member of Laguna Pai, plays the guitar and humanizes this somewhat robotic record with psychotropic riffs which remind us of Pink Floyd’s first albums.

The packaging design for the album was done by Arturo Higa Taira, a poet and designer who plays on electroacoustic waves as a subtle tribute to the cover of Joy Division’s first album. Higa creates a design full of curious references based on pictures taken with a low-resolution cell phone camera by Grita Lobos! and environmentalist Romina Cooper.
